¿What it is EPIC GRAN CANARIA?
It is a national road cycling event that consists of two stages, a Night Crit and a cyclosportive that reveals to all participants some of the treasures of the island.
¿There is time to arrive at any segment?
Yes, when closing the road in the chrono-climbs, you will have 30 minutes for the first segment and 2 hours for the second. It will be a car that cut the riders who do not exceed the mínimum speed required.
Where can I pick up my bib?
Bib number delivery will take place on Saturday, 17 February from 15:00pm at the start line in MELONERAS (Mar Báltico Street). Bib number collection will not be possible on the day of the day of the cyclosportive on 18 February Sunday.
¿Where a when will start the EPIC?
The Night Crit start line will be at 15:30 in Meloneras (Mar Báltico Street) and the Cyclosportive at the Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas at 08:30am.
Will there be any rankings and prizes?
Prizes are awarded to the first men of all categories and women that have complete the route, for the older and younger participants, for the largest cycling club, for the participant coming from the furthest place.
¿I do not want to do the Criterium, may ride just the cyclosportive?
You have to make the registration in both stages and ride just one stage Crit or Cyclosportive.
¿Are the roads open to the traffic?
Just the chrono-climbs are closed to traffic permanently. Nevertheless, participants are advised to stay in their lane and respect traffic signs and indications of the police and civil protection during the whole tour.
¿What is the minimun age to participante in the EPIC GRAN CANARIA?
The minimum age for participants is 18 years. Young people aged between 16 and 18 will be allowed to participate with written parental consent.
Who can collect the bib number?
Bib number collection is personal and cannot be delegated on others. In order to pick up the bib number it is mandatory to show your ID or passport, and your RFEC-UCI licence in the case that the insurance proposed by the Organization has not been taken out. If not, the participant must pay 10€ for one-day assurance.
¿Are there limits to complete the chronos?
Chrono Ayagaures 4,1 kms: 30 Minutes Chrono Ayacata 24,5 kms: 2 Hours
¿Do I need a medical certificate to participate?
The current legislation for cycling contests allows the participation without medical examination. Nonetheless, all participants are advised to do a medical examination before participating in the EPIC GRAN CANARIA since it requires a great physical effort for a long time. When registering, participants declare that they are physically fit to take part in the event.
Do I need a license? Am I covered in case of accident?
No, you do not need a license. Participants who do not belong to the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) have to book the one-day-assurance during the registration process.
